Christian Wedding Ritual
India is a home for different cultures and religions. People from different religions and culture live together in harmony. Every religion has its own place in the society. Hindu’s covers the majority of population but Christians hold their distinct identity in the society as well. In spite of being a minor population, the Christian culture has influenced many.
Christian culture is known for its simplicity and elegance. It reflects the western culture but has preserved its traditional aspects as well. Christian wedding is like a beautiful fairy tale. The ambiance of a Christian wedding is very pleasing. The bride in the pearl white gown, formally dressed groom, beautifully dressed best man and the bridesmaid, church decorated with flowers, scented candles and drapes and the choir being played all this makes Christian weddings so special.
Rituals and customs form the base of every wedding. Christian wedding is no exception. It follows many rituals and customs which are divided into pre, post and wedding day rituals. These rituals may different for different communities.
Christian wedding ceremonies begins with the bridal shower. This is basically a hen party where all the female friends of the bride join for celebration and merry-making. It is carried out by the bride’s family. At the groom’s place a bachelor’s party is conducted. This is to celebrate his last moments of bachelorhood. Fun and excitement tops the peak at this party. The bride and the groom enjoy their heart out at these functions arranged for them by their friends and family members.
Christian weddings are conducted in the church. The groom sends a car for the bride. This is a part of the ritual. The groom welcomes the bride with a flower bouquet and then both head toward the altar. The wedding ceremony is conducted by the priest. The priest blesses the wedding rings and gives it to the couple. They exchange rings with each other. In the presence of two witnesses the couple signs the register. The priest then declares them man and wife. This is followed by the wedding mass.
A grand and lavish reception party is thrown to celebrate the wedding. The couple is welcomed by showering confetti and then they cut the cake together. The guests are served delicious cuisines. Dance and music makes the reception party more colorful and lively.
