Groom Turban
A groom’s attire is incomplete without the turban. It holds great religious importance for the Indians and is an inseparable part of Indian weddings. Turban adds a royal touch to the groom’s attire.
In Hindu weddings, the turban or Pagri forms an integral part of the wedding ceremonies. As we move from one end of the country to the other we would witness different turban draping styles. Turbans are very colorful and reflect the culture of our country.
Turban is known for its beauty and the elegant look that it provides when worn. It is made from a single strip of colorful cloth. It could be draped in different styles depending upon the region. In different regions they are known by different names. Some call it the Pagri, Sela while others call it the Safa. They are made from different materials like the silk, bandhani and chuneri etc. Rajasthani groom’s choose bandhani turbans while Punjabi’s go for silk turbans. These turbans are decorated with beads, gems, zardosi, thick gold borders and even have pearl strings attached to it. A Sarpech or Kalgi is a colorful brooch that is attached to the turban. The Sarpech is decorated with precious stones or gems and has a feather attached to it.
Turban holds great significance for the bride’s family, especially the bride’s father. It symbolizes his self-respect, pride and prestige. It is worn by all the close members from the groom’s and the bride’s family. It is worn with the sherwani or any other traditional outfit. Turban plays a vital role in enhancing the look of the groom and makes him look like a royal prince.
Today grooms prefer wearing turbans that matches their wedding outfit. There are various styles of turbans available these days. Some grooms even choose to wear designer turbans. Turbans are selected that compliments the groom’s personality and gel with his wedding outfit.
