Inter-Caste Marriage
Marriages are made in heaven and solemnized on earth.
India is a combination of many religions and cultures. Every religion has its own rules that need to be followed when it comes to marriage. A land where religion, tradition and culture hold a significant place, inter-caste marriage is taken to be a blot on the Indian society and is not entertained much.
Indian culture and society has not yet been able to get rid of caste system. When couples choose their partners belonging to some other caste or religion it creates lot of problems. Inter-caste marriages face a lot of protest from families. The traditional beliefs create hurdles for the couples to commence their marriage. If a girl has a modern outlook then she is criticized by her family. The new age of globalization and exposure to different cultures is slowly and gradually changing the lookout of Indians towards inter-caste marriage.
India shelters many caste and religions. Even today inter-caste marriages are not accepted by the society and have to go through a lot of hardships and protests from the families. Due to this, couples opt for court marriages or secretly get married. Inter-caste marriages are more prevalent in metros but the remote parts of the country still haven’t accepted it. Even today the same old practice of arranged marriage is prevalent in remote parts of India.
Inter-caste marriages are mostly carried out in temples, gurudwara or maybe in the court. Only close friends attend this marriage and all the customs and rituals are not followed. These marriages are usually kept short. In case, parents give their approval later on then it could be carried out with all the customs and rituals.
Inter-caste marriage is challenging the old Indian customs and traditions. It is influencing young masses in metros. It is supported even by the government. After all marriage is all about the union of two hearts irrespective of the social background and class.
