Mandap Decoration

Mandap is a place where all the wedding rituals are carried out. That is why it is considered very scared and auspicious place. It witnesses the binding together of two individuals to be one soul forever in eternal peace and harmony.

Weddings are considered very auspicious in India. Mandap is a sacred place as per the tradition. It is a four-pole canopy that is build at the center of the stage. The four pillars of the canopy represent the parents of the bride and the groom who have gone through hard and tough times to bring up their childrens. All the main day rituals including the tying of the mangalsutra, pharas, and kanyadaan are carried out in the mandap itself. All these are performed in presence of the holy fire “Agni” who is said to be the witness for the wedding while the priest recites the Vedic hymns. The mandap decoration therefore plays a very vital role in the wedding decor. They add glamor to the whole wedding affair.

More than feast and clothing, people give importance to the venue and mandap decor. A perfect selection of decor adds color to the wedding and leaves the spectators stunned. The decoration needs to be planned according to the theme. A very loud Mandap decor in contrast to the elegant hall decor will spoil the look. The Mandap can be decorated completely with red and white flowers. This gives it a royal look. Many seasonal flowers may also be used. From real to artificial flowers there are many alternatives available for latest trendy style of decoration.

Mandap is decorated as per the theme. Kalash of different size and colors may be used to decorate the mandap in a traditional style. Colorful netted and silk drapes are wrapped around the pillars of the canopy. Colorful lights both small and big are also used. Decoration also includes wall hangings and other art crafts.

Nowadays, people prefer westernized Mandap decoration. This includes more use of netted drapes preferably silver and complimenting flowers like carnations, lilies or baby roses. The backdrops are decorated with flowers like orchids and roses which gives it an elegant look.
