Sagan ceremony rituals are practiced mostly in Punjab. It is a pre-wedding ritual and is celebrated with great fun and enthusiasm. It marks the beginning of the wedding rituals.

Sagan a pre-wedding ceremony is usually carried out at the groom’s place or a banquet hall. The family members of the bride are invited there. The bride’s father or elder brother applies tilak on the groom’s forehead. The tilak is made from kesar, rice and flower petals. As a token of their blessings the groom is presented gifts, clothes or gold jewelry like a chain or a ring. Dry fruits and sweets are also presented to the groom. All the relatives shower their blessings on the him.

At the bride place, the chunni chadan ceremony is carried out. Here the groom’s entire family visits the bride’s place. The groom’s sister or sister-in-law presents the bride’s a red sari, as red is considered to be the color of good luck and is preferred on auspicious occasions. The girl is suppose to dress in the clothes given by her in- laws. The groom’s mother drapes a red chunni on the bride’s head and presents her some jewelry. Then the bride is fed boiled rice and milk by all the relatives of the groom’s family. Rings are exchanged between the bride and the groom. The Pandit is called who performs a havan for the Sagan ceremony. In some cases the priest ties a sacred thread on the wrist of the groom. It is mostly arranged so that both the families can meet and know each other well.

Music and dance adds the finishing touch to the ceremony.
