Every girl dreams about her marriage. The happiness associated with the wedding brings with it some sorrow as well. The girl is very happy when she gets married but a corner of her heart cries and is sad as she have to leave her dear parents with whom she spend her entire childhood and shared all her joys and sorrows. It is difficult for her but she manages to smile even in that situation.

The vidaai is the last ceremony that is carried out on the main wedding day. This is a ritual when the bride leaves her parents and her family behind and moves ahead with her husband to lead a new life. The bride’s father officially handovers his daughter’s responsibility to her husband and ask him to take care of her. This ceremony is highly emotional and touches everyone’s heart. The bride and her parents who had managed to control their emotions throughout the wedding break down when the time of the bride’s departure arrives. When the bride steps out of her maternal home, she throws a handful of rice over her head, into her mother’s aanchal. This indicates that the bride has paid back all her mother debts and also that she wishes prosperity to her parent’s home.

The bride is blessed by her family members as she is about to enter into her new life. As a token of their love and remembrance they present her some gifts. In earlier days, the bride was taken in sedan chair also known as the doli which used to be decorated beautifully with flowers. Nowadays, married couples depart in decorated cars. When the car is about to leave, the bride’s brothers and cousins give the car a little push. With this it is believed that they give their sister a push so that she can move ahead in her life. Sometimes the bride’s younger brother or sister accompanies her to give her some moral support.
