Indian weddings are known for its grand, impressive and elaborate nature. There are many functions that need to be carried out. All these functions primarily begin at the bride’s place. They begin well before the main wedding day and continue after the wedding as well. All these functions add color and enthusiasm to the entire wedding. Though the wedding lasts for just a couple of hours, the functions associated with it are almost endless. These functions hold a great significance in the weddings. It is a foundation laid for a happy and peaceful married life.

Wedding is considered to be the biggest and the most auspicious event in the life of every individual. Everyone wants to make it the most memorable day of their life and hence every function associated with it is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Without these functions wedding would appear dull and almost incomplete. These functions are a way of showering blessing on the bride and the groom and expressing the happiness of both the families.

These functions may be primarily divided into the pre-wedding, the post wedding and the wedding day functions. Since India is a blend of many religions there are different wedding functions that are celebrated throughout the country. People usually think that only Hindu weddings have many elaborate functions but that’s not true almost all the Indian weddings have a lot of functions, customs and rituals associated with it and four to five days are completely dedicated to these pre-wedding functions. Usually in every religion the pre-wedding functions begins almost a week before the wedding day. They include the sangeet, mehendi and haldi ceremony.

On the wedding day, there are many more functions that are carried out. They include welcoming the baraat and the mandap ceremonies. Tying the mangalsutra and applying sindoor is also a part of the ceremonies that are carried out on the wedding day.

There are functions and ceremonies performed after the wedding as well. These are carried out at the groom’s place. They make the wedding event grand, enjoyable and colorful.
