One of the most important and crucial ritual in Indian weddings is exchanging the wedding vows without which a wedding is considered incomplete. Wed lock is the union of two hearts making an everlasting promise. As per Indian tradition, the bride and the groom are supposed to take seven rounds around the sacred fire. Fire is considered holy and is an important element in Indian weddings. While taking these rounds the bride and the groom exchange vows with each other. Each vow explains the promises and commitments that both the bride and the groom will share with each other. They have a deep meaning and are very significant. These seven vows are the witness that the bride and the groom have been claimed to be husband and wife from here on.

With each round the bride and the groom take a vow. Those vows are as follows:-

1. With the first vow, they pray for prosperity of household in their new life.
2. With the second vow, the couple prays to be offered physical, spiritual and mental strength so that they may lead a happy, peaceful and healthy life.
3. With the third vow, they pray to be blessed with richness and prosperity and will be together in thick and thin.
4. With the fourth vow, they promise to share love, trust and to live together in harmony and happiness.
5. With the fifth vow, the couple prays to be blessed with children.
6. With the sixth vow, they promise to stay together forever and lead a long and happy life.
7. With the last and the final vow they pledge to stay loyal, united and true to each other.

These vows help the couple to come into a relationship and to share a bond together.
